Wi-Fi, & Free Hot Spots & WiMax Network

The City of Chanute uses its Wi-Fi network for multiple purposes. We use the network for internal communications across all departments of the city to better manage our control systems, especially for the utility operations. In addition we have free Wi-Fi hot spots around the community at each park location and in the downtown area for the convenience of our visitors.

Recently we secured the lease rights to protected spectrum from four area educational institutions. We currently have a 4G radio WiMax system which gives the City of Chanute a 35 miles reach. This infrastructure provides dedicated spectrum at 2.5 MHz.  Our intention longer term is to provide communications for public safety and utility purposes, however additional bandwidth can be used for commercial purposes.
