Your Health Around Flood Water :

• Good hand washing helps avoid water borne illness.

• Using soap and clean water, lather hands for 20 seconds and rinse.

• If clean water is not available, use liquid hand gel.

• Flood water may contain bacteria, parasites and chemicals. Avoid contact with flood waters if at all possible.

• Contact your doctor if you become ill after being in flood water or working in clean up efforts.

Cleaning Up after the Flood:

• Check with authorities before entering restricted areas.

• Make sure your tetanus shot is current (within last 10 years).

• Wear rubber gloves, boots and protective clothing.

• Avoid contact with flood water.

• First aid, even for minor cuts, is important.
