City Government

Chanute is organized as a Commission/City Manager form of government.  The City Commission consists of a Mayor and four City Commissioners, all with the same voting responsibilities.  Every two years an election is held and three City Commission seats are at stake every election.  The two candidates receiving the most votes are elected for four-year terms and the candidate receiving the third most votes is elected for a two-year term.

City Commission meetings are open to the public and are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers, Memorial Building - Second Floor, 101 S. Lincoln.  City Commission meetings are also broadcast live on Cable Channel 4 and re-broadcast the following evening at 7:00 p.m.

If you have an item to be placed on the Commission's Agenda, please forward your request to the City Manager's Office, 101 S.
