Chanute is organized as a
Commission/City Manager form of government. The City Commission
consists of a Mayor and four City Commissioners, all with the same voting
responsibilities. Every two years an election is held and three City
Commission seats are at stake every election. The two candidates
receiving the most votes are elected for four-year terms and the candidate
receiving the third most votes is elected for a two-year term.
City Commission meetings are open to the public and are
held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the
City Commission Chambers, Memorial Building - Second Floor, 101 S.
Lincoln. City Commission meetings are also broadcast live on Cable
Channel 4 and re-broadcast the following evening at 7:00 p.m.
If you have an item to be placed on the Commission's
Agenda, please forward your request to the City Manager's Office, 101 S.
Lincoln, Chanute, Kansas, 66720 by the Wednesday prior to the following
Monday's Commission meeting. Comments and questions are welcome and
can be made at the Commission meetings during the Public Comments Section
of the Agenda. In addition, questions or comments to the City
