B&B Theatres B&B Theatres is pleased
to announce that construction has begun on a new
4-screen theatre to open in Chanute Kansas in time
for the Holiday season of 2006. The Roxy 4 will be
located in downtown Chanute at 320 East Main Street.
Construction has begun on the Roxy 4 with the site
being cleared and the foundation and concrete slab
started. The steel structure should start going up
within a week.
"We are very excited about this
project." stated Bob Bagby, President of B & B
Theatres. "Over the past few years we have begun
replacing our older facilities with new
state-of-the-art theatres.

for an official ground breaking ceremony of the new
Roxy 4 theatre. |

We have operated the Chanute Cinema for over
20 years and knew if we made the investment that the
residents of Chanute would support the new theatre. Bagby
also noted that "this type of project is a complicated
process and we want to express our gratitude to Chanute City
Manager Randy Riggs, Assistant City Manager Brad Eilts, Carl
Ware and Doug Jenkins in the City of Chanute building
department and Dan Mildfelt and Jonathon Johnson at
Community National Bank for their patience and commitment to
make this happen." |
The Facility
The new theatre will contain a vast number
of features and innovations including:
The box office will be inside, allowing the
customer to purchase tickets our of the weather. The lobby
will feature decor that promotes current and upcoming movies
and look back at Hollywood's yesteryear. A family arcade
will also be available to challenge kids (and kids at
heart), of all skill levels.
Hungry movie fans will find a full array of
snacks and foods including nachos, fountain drinks and a
great selection of candy. Cotton candy will be made fresh on
the premises. Going to see a movie would not be complete
without some hot popcorn. The new multiplex will feature
"the best popcorn in town" popped daily and served fresh
form the popcorn machine.
The focal point of any movie theater is its
auditoriums. The new 4-screen theatre will boast a
presentation equal to big city theatres. Stadium seating,
wide ails and ergonomically designed seats assure a
comfortable experience. Wall-t-wall curved screens. digital
and stereo surround sound, and state of the art projection
equipment assures a dynamic movie-going experience.
Family History
B & B Theatres has been family owned and
operated since 1924, when Elmer Bills, Sr. opened a movie
house in Salisbury Missouri. where the future Mrs. Bills
played piano for silent movies.
Sterling Bagby joined Bills Theatre in 1936
as a concession operator. Following World War II Bagby and
his wife Pauline formed their own theatre company, The Bagby
Traveling Picture Show, which led to a group of indoor and
drive-in theatres.
In the 1980's the Bills and Bagby families
formally merged theatre operations after years of an
informal association creating B & B Thretraes. B & B
Theatres reputation as a true family operation was cemented
when Pauline and Sterling Bagby's son Robert married Amy and
Elmer (Jr.) Bills0 daughter, Bridget. Sterling Bagby passed
away in October of 2000.
Current Operations
B & B Theatres operates and/or books
191 screens in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. Along with the
Roxy 4 in Chanute, Kansas's theatre locations include
Concordia, Arkansas City/Winfield, El Dorado,
Independence, Fort Scott, Dodge City, McPherson, and
Iola. Missouri towns that B & B operates in include
Fulton, Liberty, Festus, Waynesville, Laurie,
Lexington, Marshall, Moberly, Chillicothe,
Hannibal, Neosho, Monett, Bolivar, Lebanon and
the original location in Salisbury. In Oklahoma the theatre
locations are Sapulpa, Claremore, El Reno and Ponca
City. Construction is underway for a new 8-screen theatre in
Warrentown, Missouri. In Moberly Missouri, the company
operates a 5-screen indoor theatre and drive-in complex; the
only one of its kind in the United Sates. B & B theatres ahs
offices in Salisbury, Missouri, Liberty, Missouri and Iola
Kansas. Facilites that are bold have been completed or
expanded since 2000.
