The Chanute Police Department
consists of three eight-hour shifts.
There are six uniformed officers for each shift.
The main patrol area of the Chanute Police Department is the City
of Chanute City limits. There
is an emergency response zone around Chanute that the police department
can respond to if assistance is necessary and asked for by the Neosho
County Sheriff's Department.

officer of the Chanute Police Department is as follows:
The
two pieces of equipment that the officer uses that are hardly ever noticed
are the pen and notebook.
The
patrol vehicles for the Chanute Police Department are the Ford Crown
Victoria, Jeep Cherokee, and the Chevrolet Impala.
The department possesses four of the Ford Crown Victorias, three
of the Jeep Cherokees and one Chevrolet Impala.
There
is a noticeable difference in the performance of both vehicles.
The Crown Victoria is more of a pursuit oriented vehicle and the
Jeep more of a patrol vehicle. Both
vehicles perform well out in the field.
A patrolman for the Chanute
Police Department
has a wide range of duties. Field Services are chiefly concerned with the
suppression of criminal activity and vice: Observation, responding on
routine and emergency calls, investigation of criminal activities,
recovery of stolen property, regulation of conduct, enforcement of drug
laws and apprehension of offenders, traffic law enforcement, and traffic
accident investigation.
Investigative
Services, deals with the investigation of criminal cases, the
detection and arrest of criminal offenders, location of missing persons,
the recovery of lost and stolen property, the enforcement of drug laws,
the investigation of drug offenses, and the coordination with State and
Federal Drug Agencies. As a
whole, the patrolman is responsible for the ultimate follow-up of all
criminal offenses. |
