Chanute Fire Department Participates in Fire Prevention Week.

This year October 8-14, 2006 was fire prevention week.

During this week, special attention is given to promoting fire safety and education.

The Chanute fire department participated in fire prevention week by making daily visits to schools in the surrounding area.

In addition, the fire department gave several tours of the firehouse to school children and their teachers.

On Thursday, October 12, Thayer Christian Preschool brought a class of three and four year olds to visit the firehouse and learn about fire safety.

The children were able to see where the firefighters sleep, eat and hangout.

Firefighter Jeremy Sutton showed the kids the firetrucks, and they all were able to take a turn sitting in a firetruck behind the steering wheel.

Lieutenant Pete Keating demonstrated how firefighters slide down the pole and put on their firefighting protective gear.

The children all received goody bags before they left filled with coloring books, stickers and of course a red firefighter hat.
