  1.  When is it legal to burn in the City?

    1. Chanute Municipal Code Section 8.08.282 – Burning Yard Waste Allowed When states, “It is unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to burn yard waste except during daylight hours from sunrise to two hours thereafter and from two hours before sunset and until sunset; provided also that the fire is continuously attended by a responsible person for the duration of the burning.”

 

  1. What can I legally burn in the City?

    1. Chanute Municipal Code Section 8.08.280 – Outdoor Burning Prohibited states, “No person, firm or corporation shall burn any refuse, trash, paper, rubbish, garbage or any other combustible material out of doors anywhere in the City; provided this section shall not prohibit the use of any outdoor fire for cooking or the burning of yard wastes as provided for in Section 8.08.282.”

 

  1. Where can I burn in the City?

    1. Chanute Municipal Code Section 8.08.281 – Other Burning Prohibited states, “No person, firm or corporation shall burn any wood, brush, leaves, trash, papers, rubbish, garbage or any other combustible material anywhere indoors in the City except in an incinerator complying with all applicable laws and ordinances.
