CPL 1930s Talk Series Book Series #1

Monday, September 17, 2018

Three different books discussed this fall as part of the Kansas Humanities Series. Free to the public. Sponsored by the Friends of Chanute Library & The Kansas Humanities. All programs are held in the Leighty Conference Room at the Depot. Books are available for loan at the first floor Circulation desk in the library. #1 "Mules and Men" by Zora Neale Hurston (1935) Hurston recalled in her introduction: "I was glad when somebody told me, 'You may go and collect Negro folklore.'" And the resulting book established the territory she would continue to explore in both fiction and non-fiction forms, the shaping of African-American identity in the contexts of both the experience of the South and the Great Migration to the cities of the north.
