Overview
The City of Chanute, Kansas has built a metropolitan area communications network for the benefit of the community. We began our network in 1984 in order to support our electric utility operations. We feel that true ultra-high speed broadband is just as important in today’s information society as electricity was over 100 years ago and believe it will be the cornerstone for future economic growth for Chanute. Google Fiber for Chanute
In 2011, the City of Chanute proposed a fiber-to-the-home project to Google, Inc. The award was granted to Kansas City, Kansas, which is two hours driving (or 7 milliseconds on our fiber network) to the north of Chanute.
